SlideshowReport

Cut section of a kidney.

Description
The internal structures of the kidney include the cortex, medulla, renal pyramids, calices, and renal pelvis. The minor and major calices and the pelvis are known as the collecting system because they collect the urine as it is produced. The renal pelvis narrows to become the ureter.
