Description
(a) This fetus is in a vertex presentation. The cervical os is closed at the beginning of labor. (b) Gradually, the cervix dilates to 10 cm, and its wall thins until it is 100% effaced. (c) The head of the fetus moves through the cervical canal and vagina until the top of the head is visible at the vaginal introitus. (d) After birth, the placenta and umbilical cord are expelled.
