Description
This scale drawing
shows the distribution of planetary orbits
around the Sun. All orbits are counterclockwise
because the view is from above Earth’s North Pole. The four
terrestrial planets are located close to the Sun; the four giant
planets orbit at much greater distances. Seen from above the
disk of the solar system, most of the orbits appear nearly
circular. Mercury has the most elliptical orbit of any planet
