Description
In the first phase of the war, 1812–1813, the United States attempted to invade Canada near Detroit, Buffalo, and Plattsburgh (New York); the attempt failed. In the second phase, 1814, the British invaded the Chesapeake and burned Washington, D.C. The final phase of the war occurred from November 1814 to early 1815, after the Treaty of Ghent was signed. British troops landed at the mouth of the Mississippi River and were defeated by General Andrew Jackson at New Orleans.
