The nucleus and nuclear envelope

Tags
Description
The nuclear envelope is composed of an inner and an outer membrane that meet at the nuclear pore complex. The inner nuclear membrane is lined with lamin proteins to form the nuclear lamina. The interior of the nucleus contains chromatin, which is attached to the nuclear matrix, and a nucleolus, where ribosomes are assembled. The transmission electron micrograph (top right) is an electron micrograph of an embedded, sectioned nucleus. The image of the pore complexes (middle right) is a scanning electron micrograph.
