Electrical charge of the inner and outer regions of nerve cells

Description
The inner and outer environments of a nerve cell at rest differ in terms of their electrical charge. During the resting potential, there is a net negative charge. When a nerve cell is stimulated, generating an action potential, positively charged ions rush inside the cell membrane. After the cell has fired, the positively charged ions are channeled back outside the nerve cell as it returns to resting state.
