Structure of plasmodesmata

Tags
Description
Plasmodesmata are cell junctions connecting the cytosol of adjacent plant cells. Plasmodesmata can be opened or closed; when open they allow water and small molecules to pass from cell to cell. At these sites, the plasma membrane of one cell is continuous with the plasma membrane of an adjacent cell. In addition, the ER from one cell is connected to that of the adjacent cell via a desmotubule.
