An example of an experiment that supported Beadle and Tatum's one gene

Description
(a) Simplified pathway for arginine synthesis. (b) Growth of wild type (WT) and mutant (groups 1, 2, and 3) Neurospora strains in the presence of ornithine, citrulline, or arginine. As shown on the left, the mutant strains did not grow on minimal media lacking arginine. However, all mutants could grow if arginine was added, and certain mutants could grow if either ornithine or citrulline was added.
