Genome sizes among selected groups of eukaryotes

Tags
Description
(a) Genome sizes among various groups of eukaryotes are shown on a log scale. As an example for comparison, two closely related species of globe thistle are pictured: Echinops bannaticus in (b) and Echinops nanus in (c). These species have similar characteristics, but E. bannaticus has nearly double the amount of DNA that E. nanus does because of the accumulation of repetitive DNA sequences.
