Description
This species is sometimes called ground fir or princess pine, but it is actually a lycophyte. The stem bears many tiny leaves, known as microphylls, and sporangia generally occur in club-shaped clusters. For this reason, lycophytes are sometimes called club mosses, another misnomer, because they are not true mosses. The gametophytes (not shown) are small structures that often occur underground.
