(a) Many protostomes have spiral cleavage, while most deuterostomes have radial cleavage. The dashed arrows indicate the direction of cleavage. (b) Protostomes have determinate cleavage, whereas deuterostomes have indeterminate cleavage. (c) In protostomes, the blastopore becomes the mouth. In deuterostomes, the blastopore becomes the anus.
