Title: Classify reactions as precipitation, acid-base, oxidation-reduction, synthesis, decomposition, displacement?
Post by: Buddy buddy on Jan 8, 2012
How do I figure these all out?

Classify the following reactions as a precipitation reaction, acid-base reaction, oxidation-reduction reaction, combustion reaction, synthesis (combination) reaction, decomposition reaction, and/or double displacement reaction. Note all that apply.

1) 2Cu(s) + 3I2(s) ---> 2CuI3(s)

2) Na2O2(s) ---> 2Na(s) + O2(g)

3) K2CO3(aq) + CaCl2(aq) ---> CaCO3(s) + 2KCl(aq)

4) HF(aq) + NaOH(aq) ---> NaF(aq) + H2O(l)

5) 4K(s) + O2(g) ---> 2K2O(s)

It's been awhile since I've been in chemistry, but I found a site that may be able to help you out.

Oxidation-Reduction is also known as Redox

Check out the site, see if it helps. If that doesnt help, Im sure there are tutors who may be able to help.

1) 2Cu(s) + 3I2(s) ---> 2CuI3(s)  synthesis     2 elements combined to make a compound

2) Na2O2(s) ---> 2Na(s) + O2(g)  decomp   a compound decomposed into its components

3) K2CO3(aq) + CaCl2(aq) ---> CaCO3(s) + 2KCl(aq)  precip      2 liquids combined and a solid appeared

4) HF(aq) + NaOH(aq) ---> NaF(aq) + H2O(l)   neutralization   acid and base reaction

5) 4K(s) + O2(g) ---> 2K2O(s) synthesis      2 elements combined to make a compound
