Question 29 of 30   3.33/ 3.33 Points
Explain how you calculated the mitotic index of each tissue sample.

To calculate the mitotic index of each sample, I counted the number of cells dividing in cell sample number 1 added them to the number of cells dividing in cell sample 2 and divided them by the total number of cells in the samples altogether (i.e. total number of cells in sample 1 + total number of samples in sample 2). Then I multiplied them by 100 to receive the mitotic index of the samples.
Comment: You described the calculation of mitotic index correctly.

Question 30 of 30   3.33/ 3.33 Points
Based on the results acquired through the lab simulation, which type of cancerous tissue was the slowest growing and what data did you use to come to this decision?

Based upon the mitotic index of each of the cancerous tissues, it can be reasonably concluded that the slowest growing cancerous tissue is within the lungs. As I reviewed the mitotic index from the lab, I attempted to discern the reasoning behind its slow growth in comparison to the others, and given the limited information from the lab, I could not determine a reason. It is possible that the constant metabolic activity in the stomach and the lungs could have some control over the mitosis of the cells in that region.
Comment: Yes, you are correct lung tissue was the slowest growing cancerous tissue because it had the lowest mitotic index.
