Energy from the sun is converted into chemical energy in the form of sugar via photosynthesis. Thus, energy, with the addition of matter - water and carbon dioxide - produces molecular energy in the form of carbohydrates (simple sugars). Once these sugars are made, they are moved into the fruits of plants or converted into more complex carbohydrates, such as cellulose found in wood. Animals, the consumers, eat plants, which are the primary producers, and breakdown these chemical forms of energy produced by the plant, through the process of cellular respiration. Cellular respiration produces cellular energy in the form of ATP that essentially allows us to do work, to move, to live.
