I'm interested in biology but wondering if biomedicine is a better idea opportunity wise.

The areas of biology I'm interested in are: plant science, microbiology, environmental science, toxicology.

Are these areas good or should I consider medical research?

They are all related. If you specialize in any of those fields, you learn all the basics first anyway. After a year or so, you can choose what really interests you.

Thanks padre. I'm more attracted to biology than medicine. But I also want to pick an area that is useful. So far environmental microbiology and plant science seems to most interesting to me. Will look around from there.

But I also want to pick an area that is useful.

You're right, useful for you when you graduate and want to make a decent living. Both of the fields you chose and important and will be useful in the non-distant future.
