I've heard good things about the linear algebra book by Larson.

However, I can tell you, DO NOT (I can't stress this enough) purchase the one by Grossman. Horrible book for a first year course in linear algebra, not too sure about the rest of the book (my friends who've taken linear algebra and also used the same book say the same thing). I barely cracked it open in my first year, but the times I did, there was barely an explanation on what to do and it was easier to go online and find what oyu need. Steps were minimal if any, and entries were irrelevant. Do not get that book!
