Parkinson’s disease results from degeneration of dopamine-secreting neurons to the neostriatum. L-DOPA is the precursor for dopamine and its administration results in the release of more dopamine in the brain of a patient with Parkinson’s disease. The latter can mediate some of the symptoms of the disease but may also result in motor difficulties involving involuntary movements/postures.
