If there are 3 genes and one only has the relative ages of the genes, will the oldest gene be the most widespread in the population?

Not necessarily. In the most simplest case, the more widespread gene would be the one that confers the greatest fitness to the organism and ensures its survival. It could also spawn mutant strains that could be better suited and outperform the original gene or it could be a highly conserved gene.

It can get a lot more complicated with how genes interact with other genes and whether there is competition or cooperation amongst the various different alleles of the gene.
