adaptive immunity

Adaptive immunity is the protection of a host organism from a pathogen or toxin. It is mediated by B cells and T cells, and is characterized by immunological memory. Adaptive immunity is highly specific to a given antigen and is highly adaptable.

immune specificity

Immune specificity is the ability to react against one type of pathogen without concurrent cross-reactivity against other pathogens.

memory

Immune memory is the way the body's immune system remembers vaccines or diseases it has been exposed to in the past. It requires cells like memory T cells.

immunocompetence

Immunocompetence is the ability of the body to produce a normal immune response following exposure to an antigen.
