I conducted a a polymerase chain reaction last week in my biomedical class. We were amplifying TPA-25 ALU.

A question which I don't know how to answer is what amplified fragments of approximately 400 and 2000 bp conclude?

Within my lab I was able to conclude that an individual who contains a Alu (+) homozygous band in their lane demonstrates that presence of Alu insertions. But, what would 2000bp mean?

I believe if you see two lines, it means the individual is heterozygote, though I am making a big assumption. The idea comes from this website: http://www.accessexcellence.org/AE/AEPC/DNA/detection.php

Yes, I am aware of that! Thanks Slight Smile. I just dont understand what 2000 bp's concludes. I know tht a 400 bp band concludes that the ALU insertion is present. a 100 bp band concludes that no ALU element is inserted and present. What does a 2000 bp conclude?
