Hello everyone,

I was recently reading about a near human extinction theory potentially involving a volcanic eruption around 70 thousand years ago.  Just thinking about this led me to wonder how time is understood through genetics.

Also, how can a number of ancestors be determined based on our genes as well?  I can understand how genes can assist us with understanding traits, but am not familiar with how time is determined, or population.

Thanks everyone,

Hey GelJipper, I'm trying to understand your question, but it's not making sense. Are you asking, based on our genes, how can we better know traits of our ancestors?
