You isolated a gene expressed in differentiated neurons in mice. You then fused the upstream DNA and beginning of the gene to a lacZ (reporter gene) so that you could monitor expression. Different fragments (shown as dark lines in the figure below) were cloned next to the lacZ gene that lacked a promoter.  The clones were introduced into neurons in tissue culture to monitor expression. From the results that follow, which region contains the promoter and which contains an enhancer?  Please provide a written explanation for each of your answers.
