Hello,
The question is calculate the amount of stock solution you need to make 5 mL of a 0.1mM solution from a 1.0 M stock, using the formula of C1 x V1 = C2 x V2. I know I should first change the 1.0 M to 1000.0 mM and the c stands for concentration and the v stands for volume. Which would be the C1, the V1, C2 and V2.  I always get confused with that part. Would the 5mL be the V2 ? thanks

Hey oldcollegelady, welcome back!

5 mL is your final volume (V2)
0.1 mM is your final concentration (C2)
1.0 M is your initial concentration (C1)

You need to find V1. You can either change 0.1 mM to M ... or ... 1.0 M to mM. We know that 1.0 M is 1000 mM, so:

(V1)(1000 mM) = (5 mL)(0.1 mM)

V1 = 0.0005 mL
