Chloroplasts capture light energy to conserve energy in the form of ATP and reduce NADP to NADPH through a complex set of processes called photosynthesis.

There are discoidal shaped structure in chloroplast called thalakoids, stacked as granum... Many grana are present. They contain chlorophyll pigments a, b, etc which capture light energy or photons. So light reaction takes place on thylakoid.
