This 30 year old make was admitted after being transferred from the outpatient therapy services because of severe major depressive disorder with psychotic features. After a complete psychological evaluation, the risks and benefits for ECT were reviewed and explained to the patient and his family. ECT was administered three times per week. The patient tolerated the therapy well and responded quickly with overall improvement in the acute phase of his depressive disorder. After establishing adequate therapeutic levels of Lithium, the patient was discharged to be managed as an outpatient. What codes are assigned?

You are using CPT procedure code.  If you look in the Clinical Coding Workout book , this exercise is looking for ICD-9 procedure codes .  I believe this is probably the issue you are running into.

All diagnosis codes, including V-codes and E-codes,  are located in the ICD 9 manual. The diagnosis code Index to Disease is located in Volume 2, the Tabular List in Volume 1.

Facility Procedure Codes, also known as ICD-9-CM Procedure codes are located in the ICD-9 manual, Volume 3.

CPT codes are located in the CPT manual and are used to describe procedures and services performed by physicians, or other healthcare professionals. Slight Smile
