I'm studying the differences between pH, water content and the fauna found between a Beech forest with ivy floor coverage and a Beech forest without. How would you expect the presence of the ivy to affect these variables?

To answer the question, I'd say yes. As resources decrease, that means they are being used by organisms to generate energy. This releases CO2 in the process, and CO2 becomes carbonic acid in the presence of water.
