The colour of eyes in fruit flies is determined by a gene on the X chromosome with two alleles. XR = red eyes; Xr = white eyes.  Cross a red-eye male with a white-eyed female.  Show the genotypes and phenotypes, with their ratios, including the sex of the parents and offspring.

Punnett squares are used to predict phenotypes from genotypes. They are a bit old-fashioned, except for simple male/female one gene matches, so we use branching diagrams more often these days.
The standard usage involves:-
1. Determining the possible gametes, and their proportions/ratio.
2. Calculating the expected diploid progeny from these gametes.
