The Media Practice Model is a theoretical framework that explains how adolescents actively use media to satisfy their needs and desires. The model consists of two categories of active media use: appropriation and incorporation. Appropriation refers to the active and intentional use of media by adolescents to achieve specific goals, such as learning new skills or gaining social status. For example, an adolescent might use social media to learn new dance moves or to connect with peers who share similar interests. Incorporation, on the other hand, refers to the ways in which adolescents integrate media into their daily lives and identities. For example, an adolescent might use music to express their emotions or to create a sense of belonging with a particular social group. The third category of active media use is rejection, which refers to the ways in which adolescents actively avoid or resist certain media messages or practices. For example, an adolescent might reject certain beauty standards promoted by the media in order to promote body positivity and self-acceptance. It is important to note that these categories are not mutually exclusive and that adolescents can engage in multiple forms of active media use simultaneously.
