ok my niece has a school project and her mom and I are not good at geography, what are the similarities and differences between the tropical and the temperate zones?

well, they can both have rainforests, which is more a function of rain than temperature

The tropical zone has no freezing temperatures, the temperate zone does.  Both have relatively mild climates compared to arctic zones.
