I have been given a theoretical world in which an organism uses nitrogen gas to perform respiration. I have though about going at this from a few angles, such as:

-harboring nitrogen fixing bacteria somewhere in the respiratory system, which convert n2 gas into NH3 (ammonia) and then using this, along with yeast, to ferment the NH3 into glycerol, ethanol, CO2, and H2O. I can't imagine this would produce ATP though, am I wrong?

-Using the N2 gas directly in cell respiration, however I believe N2 is not a strong oxidizer, so would this work during respiration at all?
Is there a third way to respire using N2 gas?
Hope anyone can help!
Cheers
