Many organic compounds such as Carboxylic acids, Alcohols, Phenol, Amines etc which forms the hydrogen bond with water are water soluble. But most of the organic compounds are readily soluble in nonpolar solvents. Some organic compounds dissolve in water due to the presence of functional groups that are electronegative in nature and are capable of forming hydrogen bonding, e.g. Phenol, short chain alcohols, and carboxylic acids. Add DCM, DCM will carry your organic compound with itself making two separate layers of aq. and organic. Further, you can separate DCM from your compound by doing rota-vapour.
