Your skeletal system helps maintain homeostasis by producing new red blood cells as the old ones die off. It also helps maintain the level of calcium in the blood stream.

There are two cell types, called osteoblasts and osteoclasts.

Osteoclasts take bone, and re-absorb them. Osteoblasts then build new bone. Essentially, your bones suffer wear and tear. Osteoclasts take old bone, which may have some small fractures and reabsorb them. When this happens, your osteoblasts come in, and rebuild the bone.

The skeletal system provides structural support to maintain the human body form.

The skeletal system also serves as an important source of immune system stem cells.

It serves as a source of minerals for electrolyte, and acid-base balance.
