I've been reading lately about methods of reproduction in animals. I've found out that there are species which can reproduce sexually and asexually, but the only examples that I've found choose between the method of reproduction according to environmental factors. That is, if there is surplus of food and lack of predators they reproduce asexually to maximize growth, but if the conditions are unfavourable they reproduce sexually to effect rapid mutation. My question is: are there species whose part of progeny reproduces sexually and another part asexually *regardless* of environmental factors?
