Pyruvate is broken down into 2 3-carbon molecules. The final products of glycolsis are 2 pyruvate + 2ATP +2 NADH. 2 pyruvate then enters the critic acid cycle, but before it can enter, pyruvate must oxidize into Acetyl CoA.

Other molecules that can be used are:
1) Fats such as fatty acids and glycerol: glycerol can be fed to glycolysis and fatty acids can be fed to the Krebs cycle.
2) Amino acids: can be fed to the Krebs cycle or glycolysis.
3) Polysaccharides, disaccharides, and other monosaccharides besides glucose: can be fed to glycolysis.

Notice that you cannot add molecules to pyruvate oxidation or the respiratory chain.  Molecules can only be added to either glycolysis or the Krebs cycle (citric acid cycle).
