What does the statement "water chases miliosmoles" mean?

If you have two water solutions that are separated by an osmotc membrane, water will diffuse to the solution with the higher miliosmoles. (The transfer of water tends to reduce the difference of miliosmoles between the two solutions.)

Generally, this phrase means that water diffuses to the solution with the highest (mili)osmoles.
