Explain the significance of the movement of the tongue during swallowing?

Answer: Tongue is the strongest muscle in the human body, its movement  helps with mixing the food with salivary amylase in the mouth and rolling the food into a round ball like structure called bolus before swalloing it.

Describe the three events that occur during the pharyngeal-esophageal phase of deglutition?

Answer: Am not sure about this but here is the answer.

1) as the bolus enters the throat region i.e. the pharyngeal regionor hypopharynx ( pharynx has three regions) a small flap called the epiglottis  closses the tracheal opening.
2) as the trachea is closes , air intake into the lungs stops and the opening into the oesophagus opens.
3) when the bolus enters the oesophagus the flap closes the oesophagus opening the trachea allowing air to enter the lings.
