Biologists learn how the world works. They show us what it means to be alive. They help improve many people's quality of life by creating new medicines.

As a director of A Hospital Lab.  I hire Medical Technologists many of them had an interest in biology and decided to expand that interest.  A biology degree by its-self is not worth a great deal in the marketplace.  But, it is a stepping stone for other more lucrative ventures.  Hope this helps.

Science is the objective search for knowledge.  Some knowledge has direct application to the welfare of humanity while other knowledge is abstract and until applications are found it is valuable primarily in intellectual enlightenment.  The biological sciences are one of the sciences most directly applicable to solving the problems facing us.  These include solving problems in medicine, ecology, pharmacology, behavior, epidemiology, agriculture, forestry, nutrition, food preparation, fermentation and others.  Although some in the sciences of chemistry and physics may argue that their sciences are the basis of biology, without the biological sciences providing the transition to application to the above fields, many of the findings in those sciences could not be applied to our well-being.
