Event Booth Instruction Manual for Battle of the Lemons Cliff Folds COMS201 CTU 5-1-19 Event Booth Construction Overview Requirements Physical This lemonade stand will not take very much strength to create because the parts are very small pieces of wood. The entire stand only weighs 60 pounds so two children can pick it up pretty easily. It has to be very light and people have to be able to move it very easy because they will be transported all over the city in various locations to set up for the children. The physical attributes one would need to work with this equipment will not be anything more than a child can handle as they will be the ones to maneuver it. The event will be sure to keep the physical requirements very low for the children, who will not be able to lift very much, especially the groups with the younger kids. Materials This event is going to require a large list of things that will be used for different aspects of the event. First thing we will consider is the lemonade stand it self which is going to consist of wood, screws, paint and likely some poster paper. This set of materials will be used to create the stand itself, and the advertisement that will go with it. The children’s groups individually will construct it’s own stand and advertisement to go with it, with the help of an adult that will attend each group. We will also need the ingredients for the lemonade itself, which we will be producing with all organic ingredients. This will consist of lemons, sugar, a sugar substitute, (For people sensitive to the sugar) ice, and containers to mix and store them in. Equipment The equipment needed for this event is going to be the tools, specifically the drills and screws. This will be to assemble the boards and to construct the foundation of the stand. We will also need paint, makers and poster paper for the advertisements. In addition to these things, we will need something to mix and store the lemonade that will keep the ice from melting, like a cooler. We will also need a circular saw, jig saw and a sander. Safety We have hard hats and safety glasses for each of the kids so they can remain safe while working, and so they can form an understanding of safety in the workplace. This is one of the important parts to this program because it will teach them a lot of what we understand about the work environment because safety is the number one thing in most businesses. We will even have safety meetings that will be help prior to each day the event is going on. Assembly Preparation The preparation of this booth is going to consist of the gathering of all the materials and equipment that is needed to construct the booth in addition to the advertisements. We will need to have all the children together while we construct the booths, and advertisements. This will all be done at the local community center so we have a primary resource point. Instructions on assembling the booth As you can see in Figure 1, to start the process of building the lemonade stand we will need to cut the legs for the board which will be 2”x 2” boards for the legs, caster legs, rails, dividers, and side rails. These parts will be sanded down especially on the corners. Next we will need to assemble the front of the stand as well as the legs and the rails which we will use screws for. We can use dividers to space the boards, allowing us to position the rails while assembling the frame. Using the wood as a divider, we will screw it into the top rail, which will need to be done at an angle (Figure 2). The lower divider will need to be screwed into the bottom rail as well which needs to be done at an even sharper angle (Figure 3). Now we will need to complete the frame by attaching the side rails to the front assembly using screws. Then cut ¼” plywood to fit the size you won’t for the shelves. Using a jigsaw to cut the notches that fit around the legs as well as the dividers. The legs will measure 1-1/2” square, so the notches need to be cut a little oversized. Then the shelves need to be sanded. The shelves can then be slid in between the side rails (Figure 5) Screws will then hold the ends of the side rails. The back frame assembly then needs to be positioned onto the rails, then screwed in. Screws will then be used to secure the shelves into the desired position. Next we will cut the top and lid cleats to size, from the plywood. There will need to be notches cut at the corners for the legs. Drill a 3/8” hole for the jig saw to access and cut the opening to the lid. This lid will be used for the access to the cooler. Screw the lid cleats to the underside of the top, then finish it by sanding the top. Then install the roof by securing the window well with screws. Finishing and Adding the Sign The last step to this process is the final touches on the booth itself, the painting, and advertising. We will be allowing the kids to create their own style for these things and to finish the booth and the sign we will need to attach the advertisement that the children have created to the booth itself. Diagrams Completion Once this project is complete, the booth will have a roof, a storage for the cooler and will stand about 5 feet high. It has storage for the lemonade, sugar and containers in addition to the cooler. While the weight will only be 60 pounds so it can be moved by just two kids. This can then be painted and presented in the way that each group would like to do. The idea is that the kids create this out of there own imagination to help form an understanding of the business world.
