Robby Marchesiello CHEM 105 9/9/18 Ch3 PP Forum 1 Answers SUBMICROSCOPIC VISUALIZATION (page 1) Refer to the figures above when answering the following questions. Assume that the small dots are all one type of atom, while the large circles are all a second type of atom. a. How many molecules are shown in A 2 B 4 C 4 b. How many atoms are shown in A 8 B 8 C 8 ? Briefly EXPLAIN / JUSTIFY your answers to the following: c. Which represents a physical change? B --> A B --> C BC, as it seems more like a change of state because the compounds are getting closer together but remaining the same chemically. d. Which represents a chemical change? B --> A B --> C BA, as the compounds break apart and change from just 1 unique compound to 2 different ones. e. Which box(es) represent(s) a mixture? A, as it’s the only box that has more than one type of compound in it. f. Which box contains the most mass? They all have the same mass, as mass is determined elementally. Each box has the same number of small atoms as large atoms. The densities would differ, however, as a result of the changing box sizes (volumes). g. Which box is coldest? C would be the coldest, as it seems as if the compounds are close together in the state of a solid. Solids were formed when B froze. h. Which box contains the most air between molecules? A has the most air between molecules, as there is the most distance between each molecule, and likely the only box that has the molecules in a gaseous form.
