Madeline Hunter Lesson Plan TEACHER: Ms. Krause DATE: September 18, 2018 SUBJECT/GRADE LEVEL: 6th Science STANDARDS/TEKS: 6.5 A&C- The student knows the differences between elements and compounds. Students must know than an element is a pure substance represented by chemical symbols & be able to differentiate between elements and compounds on the most basic level. LESSON OBJECTIVES: Students will use the digital platform of Kahoot! to test their knowledge of chemical and physical changes & be able to differentiate between elements and compounds. MATERIALS: Chromebooks, Notes Binder DURATION: 1 Period (45 Minutes) ANTICIPATORY SET: Students will be able to brainstorm about answer choices with a small group. INSTRUCTIONAL INPUT: After the students have answered the Kahoot! question, I will explain why each answer choice was correct or incorrect. MODELING: I will demonstrate the skills of the objectives by explaining why the correct answer is right. CHECKING FOR UNDERSTANDING: I will check for understanding using the immediate feedback with Kahoot. After each class, I will download the report to see what I need to cover again. QUESTIONING STRATEGIES: This section enables teachers to ask the right questions to probe for higher levels of thinking. Again, teachers may find the Bloom’s Taxonomy of Educational Objectives a valuable tool in questioning strategies. GUIDED PRACTICE: Students will be able to use their notes binder to eliminate answers to reach the correct response. After they answer, I will explain the choices. CLOSURE: After we finish the Kahoot, I will explain that this information is relevant to them. They will see this material on the Unit test. We will look at the questions that were frequently missed on Kahoot!. INDEPENDENT PRACTICE: Students will use the data from the Kahoot and study the areas that were not as strong in the unit. They will use their note binder to study. DIFFERENTIATION: SPED Students: Provide notes binder, type in website and game pin, read the questions to them ELL Students: Provide notes binder, read the questions to them GT Students: Allow them to help struggling students RETEACH: Students will take home their notes binder and study the material for the unit test.
