Name: < > Social Studies 30-1 8.2.8 Effective Citizenship Assignment Total 15 marks There are many views on what it takes to be a responsible citizen in a liberal democracy. In this unit, you considered several perspectives on citizenship. The main question is: to what extent do citizens have a right, role, or responsibility to take action? Read pages 479-494 in textbook Perspectives on Ideology before completing this assignment. Consult the rubric on the following page BEFORE submitting your assignment. Assignment: Use the information from the textbook pages above, or from current events, and identify two examples of when a citizen took action to bring about change in society. For each example, describe the method (s) the person used to take action, and the ideology you think shaped that action. Do you think the methods used in each example were effective ways of bringing about change? Explain if you would ever use similar methods as a citizen. Include an appropriate visual that captures the ‘essence’ (success, failure, methods) of at least one of your examples. Credit the source of the visual and use a caption. Use the space below to construct your responses to the questions. < > Scoring Rubric ____/15 marks Scoring Criteria Knowledge & Understanding 10 Quality of Visual 5 Excellent Information reveals a perceptive and in-depth understanding of the methods used by citizen in chosen examples. 9-10 Compelling, accurate and relevant to examples.
