1. Fornication is sexual intercourse between two unmarried persons. Adultery is sexual intercourse by a married person with someone other than his or her spouse or by an unmarried person with a married person.
2. A marriage contracted while either party thereto has a spouse still living is void and of no legal effect.
3. In some states if one of the parties entered the marriage in good faith without knowledge of the impediment, the second marriage will become valid by death or divorce of the former spouse if the parties continue to live together in good faith on the part of one of them.

8. Under Roe v. Wade, during the first three months of pregnancy, a woman can have an abortion without interference by the state. States are allowed to pass laws to protect the mother's health during the second three-months of pregnancy by making rules as to who can perform abortions and where they can be performed. State laws may prohibit abortions during the last three months of pregnancy, with exceptions to protect the life or health of the mother.
9. The three-part test to determine obscenity is: (a) An average person, applying modern community standards, would find that the work taken as a whole appeals to prurient interests, (b) the matter must show or describe sexual conduct in a way that is openly offensive, and (c) the work, taken as a whole, has no serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.
10. Drugs are placed on one of five schedules, depending on their medical use, potential for abuse, and potential for dependence.
11. Heroin is an example of a drug that is placed on schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act.

Using Legal Language
Janice's husband, Rodney, who was white, became acquainted with some people who were taking controlled substances, which is the name for illegal drugs. Because he did not manufacture or distribute the drugs, he could not be convicted of drug trafficking. Rodney's friends often watched X-rated movies, which were allowed by local ordinance—that is, a law passed by the city—but which were close to being pornography or obscenity, because, among other points, they appealed to prurient interests, which means a shameful or morbid interest in sex. Without divorcing Janice, Rodney married another woman, thereby committing the crime of bigamy. Both of these marriages were later dissolved. Rodney then met Doris, an Oriental woman, with whom he had sexual intercourse. This crime was one of fornication because they were not married to each other. Because neither of them were married to anyone else, it was not the crime of adultery, and because they were not related by consanguinity or affinity, it was not the crime of incest. When she became pregnant, Doris decided to carry the baby to term—that is, not have a(n) abortion. The fact that the two were of different races did not prohibit them from getting married because all miscegenation statutes are now illegal.
