Ovulation

Description
A woman's reproductive system contains a pair of ovaries. Ovaries are present from birth, but it's not until puberty that the ovaries become active, and we see the maturation of follicles within the ovaries. These follicles act as nurseries for newly formed eggs to mature. Ovulation occurs when the mature egg is expelled from the ovary.

An ovulated egg is viable within the system for roughly 2-3 days before it disintegrates. Therefore, conception is most likely to happen if sex is performed prior to ovulation, and timing plays a large role in successful conception.
