Structure of a typical cell membrane

Description

Proteins are embedded in and on the phospholipid bilayer;

Some of them are glycoproteins, carrying oligosaccharide chains.

The membrane is about 6 nm thick.

Most membranes are more densely packed with proteins than is shown here.
