Description
A Western blot for confirmatory HIV diagnosis. After an enzyme immunoassay has been performed and determined to be positive, a Western blot will be performed for confirmatory analysis. For this diagnosis, the specificity is increased due to the requirement for multiple lines to be present. At each line is a different HIV antigen and its corresponding patient antibody. A strongly positive reaction is seen in the line on the top, a weak but positive reaction is seen in the middle, and a negative reaction is seen on the bottom.
