Orientation versus navigation.

Description
Starlings normally migrate from breeding grounds in Scandinavia and northeastern Europe through the Netherlands and northern Germany to overwintering sites in northern France and southeast England. This involves a southwest flight. When juveniles were captured in the Netherlands and moved to Switzerland, they continued on in a southwestern direction and ended up in Spain. When experienced birds were captured and moved, they flew to the normal overwintering areas.
