Longitudinal Profile of a River

Description
Longitudinal Profile of a River  Longitudinal profiles (a) show the  change in elevation of a river’s channel along its length. A river’s velocity and shape of its channel change as gradient changes; (b) Erosion through downcutting occurs where gradients are steep (Site 1) and flow is rapid, producing a narrow, steep-banked channel; where gradient is low (Site 3), the river flows more slowly, usually in a broad, meandering channel.
