Responses to Categories of Visual Stimuli

Description
These functional MRI scans show the regions of the human visual cortex that respond to six categories of visual stimuli. Neural activity is shown on “inflated” ventral views of the cerebral cortex. The fusiform face area is shown as a black outline, derived from the responses to faces shown in the upper left scan. (From Grill-Spector, K., Knouf, N., and Kanwisher, N. Nature Neuroscience, 2004, 7, 555–561. Reprinted with permission.)
