Involvement of the Insular Cortex in Speech Articulation

Description
Evidence for involvement is shown by the percentage overlap in the lesions of twenty-five patients (a) with apraxia of speech and (b) without apraxia of speech. The only region common to all lesions that produced apraxia of speech was the precentral gyrus of the insular cortex. (From Dronkers, N. F. Nature, 1996, 384, 159–161. Reprinted with permission.)
