The Masses, a leading Socialist magazine, featured drawings by artists, including John Sloan, as well as articles by Max Eastman and John Reed. Robert Minor, a political cartoonist with a reputation for radical politics, was a frequent contributor. His grease-crayon drawing “Pittsburgh” depicted the violence that took the lives of striking steelworkers in 1916.
